Benno completed his medical training at the University of Ulm, Germany. After graduation, he completed doctoral studies on the influence of different cytokines in pancreatic cancer, and these studies formed the basis for his doctoral thesis. In parallel to his graduate research, Benno began his surgical residency at the University Hospital of Ulm in 2015. He joined the Tuveson Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2019 to promote integration of translational research into the clinic. Benno is currently working on using human organoids to study therapy resistance mechanisms and to provide personalized therapies for cancer patients.
